Romney: “attacks and spend” Republican?
December 21, 2007
Wow, somewhere near $8 million will be spent in Iowa by year’s end by the Romney campaign, much of it to attack Huckabee. Me thinks that qualifies him for the official label of ”attacks and spend” Republican! It’s mind boggling actually when you compare that Huckabee appears to have spent less than $500,000 in Iowa yet he is leading in the polls.
There are some important lessons to learn here:
First: Romney appears to be ok with spending boatloads of cash without getting much in the way of results. Now I understand how this makes him uniquely qualified to be part of the established Washington ruling class, but I’m thinking we’ve all pretty decided we’d like to try “performance economics” for a while.
Regardless of the Club For Growth’s rant, Arkansas under Huckabee went from a $200 million deficit to an over $800 million surplus while vastly improving statewide infrastructure to invigorate the economy. Adjusted for inflation, the annual budget went from $10.4 billion to $15.6 billion on just $500 million in additional taxes. Ummm, sounds like growth to me.
Second: distorted attacks ads? I thought we were supposed to live by the Golden Rule… Matthew 7:12 – “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” ’Nuff said.
Third: possibly the most important lesson we can learn from all this is that it would appear that in 2007, in these United States of America, you can’t buy the election. Wow! I can’t tell you how much hope that gives me for us all!
